Special Board of Selectmen meeting THURSDAY OCT. 11th, 7:30 pm, in Room 126 of Town Hall. This is a special meeting (untelevised) with many important topics on the agenda. Following is the official agenda (relevant parts):

III. SELECTMEN’S BUSINESS

1) FY ’09 CAPITAL PLAN

A. What major Capital Projects are being recommended by the Board of Selectmen?

B. How will the Board of Selectmen plan to finance such projects?

C. How will each recommended project be presented:

1. To Town Meeting

2. On the ballot (if necessary)

2) FY ’09 OPERATING BUDGET:

WHAT IS THE APPROPRIATE FUNDING LEVEL?

A. Budget Assumptions/Ongoing Operations

B. Funding “Below The Line Capital”

C. Funding The Board of Selectmen’s Priorities

1. Staffing and salary levels should be in parity with comparable communities

2. The Master Plan should be updated into a comprehensive document.

3. Place a priority on achieving a “green culture”.

4. Update our current level of technology.

5. Citizen engagement should be the priority of all efforts in making municipal improvements.

6. Transportation needs to become multi-modal, including but not limited to the walk-ability of our town.

Because this meeting is being held on a Thursday and will not be televised, interested citizens might want to attend this meeting. The Selectmen could discuss current plans for the North Acton Fire Station (currently at 10,400 square feet at a cost of around $4.5M), using NESWC funds, hiring 13 additional town staff members, bringing town staff salaries "in line" with other nearby communities, Council on Aging building improvements, getting a second ambulance, and the Master Plan.
